A Psalm of the Sunset

O Lord,

The sun shined in a blue sky

And in green pastures did I lie

As I awaited this dream that was my heart’s cry

O Lord,

You knew my longing for the sunshine

You heard as I begged it to be mine

That I made my heart to it bind

To darken it would be unkind

O Lord,

The sun set

The sky went black

The pasture became the valley of death

O Lord,

You lead me through this place of despair

For the sun is no longer there

The path we tread must lead somewhere

Though sometimes I just do not care

For it seems an unending nightmare

O Lord,

Forgive me when I speak in rage

For sometimes this feels like a cage

And this feeling I just want to assuage

O Lord,

Thank you for hearing me

Thank you for being near me

Thank you for walking with me

In this darkness surrounding me

O Lord,

Stamp out the path till it be clear

May our wanderings here be a highway

To that shore where You will cause

The sun to rise
